Catalina Mountains

The Catalina Mountains are perhaps Tucson's most popular playground. The little town of Summerhaven on Mount Lemmon offers a cool break from summer heat. In winter, skiing is sometimes possible. Catalina State Park in the western foothills and Sabino Canyon northeast of town are popular for hikes and picnics.

Downtown Tucson

Downtown is Tucson’s most diverse neighborhood. Old Town Artisans and the Tucson Museum of Art along with two major venues, the Tucson Convention Center and the Temple of Music and Art anchor the arts district. All are within walking distance of restaurants, galleries, century-old homes and Tucson’s last remaining barrio.

East Tucson

The biggest attraction, by far, on Tucson’s sprawling eastside is the stunningly beautiful Saguaro National Park East. The park stretches across a swath of lush desert and the foothills of the Rincon Mountains. It’s a must see. The nearby Tanque Verde Ranch offers an authentic dude ranch experience.

Foothills
The Catalina foothills offer luxurious and classy amenities. Tucson’s best resorts are here, like Westin La Paloma, Hilton El Conquistador and Westward Look, as well as restaurants like Janos and Terra Cotta, and high-end shopping at La Encantada. For outdoor addicts, hiking trails are spread across the foothills.

Northeast Tucson
Sabino Canyon, which offers stunning hikes and year round pools -- a rarity in the desert, is the main attraction in northeast Tucson. The nearby Loews Ventana Canyon Resort and Canyon Ranch are two of Tucson’s most posh resorts. The Catalina Highway, the main road up to Mount Lemmon, slices through northeast Tucson as well.
